Meditation
Meditation can be a critical part of self-care and a powerful therapy that we recommend. It is good hygiene for your psyche and emotional body and most of us have poor emotional hygiene. Not dealing with daily stress and never taking the time to calm one’s mind and relate to oneself by “tuning in”, is a recipe for a cluttered and impulsive mind. Meditation is the act of cleaning your psyche of bad thoughts, negativity, fear, hostility and anything else that haunts you. And like anything else, you don’t get good at it without practice.
A common misconception about meditation involves the idea of entering into some sacrosanct mental space and disconnecting from the world. Meditation is a practice that allows us to bring peace and consciousness into our “waking” life. Dr. Levinson’s teacher, Yogi Bhajan, once said, “anyone can become enlightened meditating in a cave, it takes a yogi to be enlightened in the real world.” The practice of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation allows the “householder”; someone with tangible responsibilities, possessions and limitations on their time, to connect to their essence in a way that they can bring that consciousness into their daily life while still living as a participant.
If you would like to learn about some of the specific meditations we recommend at Vitaltiy we list some in our blog including the mudras and mantras.
This video the Discovery channel series “Ten Years Younger” includes a demonstration of the impact meditation can have.
